Adoption Process & Fees

We pride ourselves on making the very best matches for our dogs & cats, many of whom come from situations of neglect. Our primary adoption goal is to place rescue animals where they can be beloved companions and family members.
Adoption Guidelines
-
Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
-
Applications are reviewed in the order they are received.
-
All breed designations are best guesses by shelter and rescue staff, based on available information.
-
We prioritize matching the right animal with the right family to ensure long-term success.
-
We do not adopt dogs as service animals of any kind.
-
We do not transport or ship animals outside the greater Savannah area.
-
The majority of our rescue dogs are fostered in private, volunteer homes. Please allow for flexibility in coordinating the adoption and review process.
-
Adoptions will be officially completed after a trial sleepover of at least 7 days.
Adoption Process
1 / Complete an online application.
Start by filling out the application here: renegadepawsrescue.org/application. This is the first step and does not obligate you in any way.

2 / Reference and Vet Check
Applications are regularly reviewed, but please allow up to one week for processing. As part of the screening process, we will:
-
Call your references and veterinarian to verify that your current/previous pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and well cared for.
-
If you rent, we’ll contact your landlord to confirm pet policies and any breed or size restrictions.

3 / Contact from Foster or Coordinator
If your application is cleared, a foster parent or coordinator will reach out to discuss the dog(s) you’re interested in.
Note: Due to high interest in some dogs, only selected applicants may be contacted.

4 / Schedule a Meet & Greet
When you're ready to proceed with a specific pup, the coordinator or foster will work with you to schedule a Meet & Greet at Renegade Headquarters at 2357 Ogeechee Rd, Savannah GA 31415. All household members, including current dogs, must attend to meet the dog you're interested in.

5 / Start the Sleepover Period
After a successful Meet & Greet, you’ll begin a minimum 7-day sleepover to ensure a good fit between you and the dog.

6 / Finalize the Adoption or Return to Renegade
If at any point it’s not the right match, you will return the dog to the foster home or to Renegade Headquarters.
If everyone in your family agrees to move forward with adoption, you'll:
-
Receive a digital adoption contract via text or email.
-
Complete the paperwork and submit payment.
-
Receive a confirmation email with a link to create an Adopterluv account and access the dog’s medical records.

Your adoption fee does more than help one animal. It helps save many!
We believe every dog and cat deserves a chance, regardless of their medical needs or heartworm status. *While the adoption fee helps offset the cost of care, it rarely covers everything. Many of our animals require extensive veterinary treatment, behavioral training, and long-term foster support.
Your adoption fee helps cover:

Spay or Neuter
All pets are spayed or neutered before adoption to help eliminate the unwanted pet population and significantly decrease euthanasia numbers.

Heartworm Test
Mosquitoes are abundant in the south, which means heartworms are, too. We test every dog and cover treatment for those who need it.

Microchip
Each pet is microchipped and registration is transferred to your contact information upon adoption to ensure a quick reunion should your pet get lost.

Heartworm Treatment
Being heartworm positive is not a barrier to adoption! Renegade covers treatment for dogs who test positive while in our care.

Full Vaccination
For dogs, includes Bordetella (kennel cough), DA2PP, and rabies vaccinations (age permitting). For cats, includes Feline 1-HCPCh and rabies vaccination (over 3 months).

Vet & Behavioral Care
We take in many animals in desperate need of expensive medical care. This donation allows us to provide the highest levels of veterinary care and training to dogs in our care.
*Upon adoption, all dogs & cats are microchipped with lifetime registration, spayed or neutered, and fully vaccinated. For dogs this includes Bordetella (kennel cough), DA2PP, and rabies vaccinations (age permitting). For cats this includes Feline 1-HCPCh and rabies vaccination (over 3 months).

All dogs are heartworm tested, and all dogs & cats receive monthly flea/heartworm prevention and appropriate veterinary care throughout the duration of their time with Renegade Paws Rescue.

Additionally, all cats are tested for Feline AIDS and Leukemia.

Adoption fees help offset the medical, transport, supply, and other expenses associated with rescuing our animals. The expenses for each rescued animal almost always exceed our adoption fees.

Please note that adoption fees are not tax-deductible. All payments must be processed through ShelterLuv software.
